Going Japanese with Chaya in Baguio City

Chaya Baguio City
I always admire restaurants that serves home cooked meal. Sometimes you get to a point where fastfood is just boring. While riding a taxi going to Legarda road i was able to chance upon Chaya.
I told myself i should try that sometime with my family. You see lots of Japanese restaurants have opened in Baguio City but unfortunately their lifespan only lasts for a couple of years at least, so it is really rare to find a Baguio born Japanese Restaurant.

Luckily i was able to find time and it was during an unexpected time, it was past 2pm when we decided to try Chaya a Baguio Restaurant with a Japanese theme. So we hopped into a taxi upon reaching Chaya, we were surprised on how modest the place is. First impression of the place would be am i in the right place? You have to go through the driveway of what seems to be a house, well after further observation one will realize that it is a house transformed into a bread and breakfast and Japanese restaurant. We were greeted by welcoming staff donning elegant uniforms though i cannot fathom whether or not their clothings are japanese inspired.

It was past lunch so it is understandable why we were the only customers. The dining area is merged with a simple living room, the couch is so comfy and the overall ambience relaxing.

Chaya offers a wide variety of Japanese food in their menu. We ordered our favorite Japanese dish, Maki, sukiyaki and my daughter ordered Chaya's green tea ice cream one which i dubbed as Green tea ice cream overload.

Appetizers were also served, it was what we believe are Kalunay, Tuna and egg. The sukiyaki was great as expected the flavors of this dish could be attributed to the different ingredients of the said dish, kinda sweet. The california maki was also great and it was a large serving, rice used was sticky.

My daughters green tea ice cream overload was a nice finish to a meal as the green tea ice cream is a palette cleanser. An ice cream that is not too sweet and the sweetness actually came from the sweet beans, blueberry, strawberries, banana slices and pineapple tidbits that were included in the serving of the ice cream. Before ending our meal we were again treated to complimentary ice cream shooters.

The price? For that meal we spent around 800pesos. A price which one wont mind especially if the food tastes great. My Family and I will definitely visit Chaya again and hopefully with some friends in tow.
